‘ Twas Brillig

For the the last six months or so, I’ve been working on an original musical, ‘Twas Brillig. The book is written by Tony Kienitz, the artistic director of A Theatre Near U, and I’ve been writing the music with composer, conductor, flautist-extraordinaire Andrew Lu. The music is written for a small band, which includes one clarinet, two saxophones, bass, drums, and piano (played by me!). There’s also the occasional flute solo.

The story works as a prequel to the events that happen in Lewis Carroll’s book Alice in Wonderland, but the musical heavily alters this source material, reimagining the characters and events through a more contemporary lens. The music is stylistically diverse and always entertaining.

Performances are at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, SecondStage, from June 12 to June 27. More information and a link to purchase tickets can be found here.
